Popular Cape Town hiking trails closed after fire

The Camps Bay wildfire has been contained, but several popular hiking trails on Table Mountain will remain off-limits as crews work to secure the area.

Firefighters battled through the night on 30 September to bring the blaze under control after it ripped through roughly 25 hectares of vegetation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) said that 50 firefighters across five crews have been deployed to focus on hotspots and flare-ups. Thermal drone scans are being used to detect underground embers, while aerial support stands ready if needed.

Hiking trails currently closed

TMNP has closed these popular hiking trails until further notice:

  • Pipe Track
  • Footpaths and jeep tracks leading to Camps Bay
  • Theresa Avenue and Geneva Avenue access points
  • Trails connecting Camps Bay with Back Table and Apostle Battery
  • Paths above the Twelve Apostles
