BBC axe Emily in Paris star’s show after two series on air – despite rave reviews

THE BBC have shelved one of its comedy shows – even though it stars an Emily in Paris hunk and enjoyed good reviews.

The sitcom Peacock, made by the creators of cult hit People Just Do Nothing, won’t be returning for a third season as the Beeb want to focus on other projects.

The brutal culling is a blow to fans of Emily In Paris heartthrob Lucien Laviscount, who plays hunky gym instructor Jake, the nemesis of old skool PT and lead character Andy Peacock, played by Allan Mustafa.

A TV insider said: “There were huge hopes within the writing team that Peacock would get a third series.

“Like all comedies, they take a while to bed in but after nine episodes they thought the series got into its stride.

“But unfortunately the BBC felt otherwise and it’s now destined for the comedy scrapheap.”

Peacock first aired in April 2022 and received healthy reviews, with some critics even comparing Andy Peacock to David Brent and Alan Partridge, given the sheer awkwardness of the character.

The second series, screened last year on BBC1 and BBC3, saw Andy get a new role in a super modern new gym populated by fitness influencers but ultimately comedy chiefs felt like the comedy had run its course.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “We are very proud of Peacock but, in order to make room for new comedy shows, we sometimes have to make difficult decisions and it won’t be returning.

“We would like to thank all those involved in the series and hope to work with the team in the future.”

Peacock isn’t the only comedy series recently axed by the Beeb.

Wreck, an acclaimed comedy horror, was binned in January after two series, while Man Like Mobeen, starring co-creator Guz Khan, won’t be returning after its fifth season.
