NICOLE Kidman took the first step to “protect herself” in her divorce, but is going to need a strong support system to help her through the process, an expert has warned.
The actress, 58, is said to have fought tooth and nail to save her marriage to husband Keith Urban, 57.

But she filed for divorce on Tuesday afternoon, a day after TMZ reported the bombshell separation after 18 years together.
According to the outlet, Nicole cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce and wants to remain the “primary residential parent of the minor children.”
The couple has two daughters together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Nicole is also mom to Isabella and Connor, whom she adopted during her marriage with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.
Both Nicole and Keith have allegedly waived any spousal support and child support, although the singer has allegedly prepaid “child support obligations.”
They each will retain their own assets, which suggests they had a prenuptial agreement, although they are believed to own many of their homes together.
The divorce document was signed by two notaries; one for Keith, dated August 29, 2025, and a second for Nicole, dated September 6, 2025, according to TMZ.
Although it appears they have already hashed out a lot of the details of their divorce, Nicole was the one to file, after allegedly being left felt betrayed by Keith.
‘NEW WOMAN’
Sources have told TMZ that the country star has already moved on with another woman.
Divorce lawyer Sophie Jacobi-Parisi of Blank Rome LLP spoke to The U.S. Sun about the shocking split and what advice she would give to Nicole as she navigates the divorce.
“It is horrible what she’s about to go through. And she did it once! This is not her first rodeo. But I get the sense that it’s very different, the circumstances between her and Tom and her and Keith. I would say there is no rush.
“She’s found a [legal] team, which is great, and she’s taking the step to say, ‘I heard, the news is out, and I’m taking affirmative action to protect myself.’
“It’s gonna be very hard for her because…he’s ready. He’s apparently moved on, right?
“In his mind, he might even know what houses he wants to keep, and how he wants to see the children, and like, what they’re gonna do with their money, because he’s been sort of plotting this in his brain for a while.
“It makes it really hard, because when one person has planned this and thought this through, they’re ready to go. Let’s just go. It won’t be complicated. We can be amicable, we can be cooperative.
“And the other person who may also still want to be cooperative and amicable, but they are reeling, like…they’re way behind, right? Way, way, way behind in terms of the process, and so that’s what’s gonna make it really hard. And I feel sad for her.”
Sophie said she hopes Nicole has “good mental health support” and plenty of friends and family around her who will be there for her.
“It sounded like her sister was around and being really supportive, so to build that team, but also not talk to a million people about it because everyone has their own viewpoint on what should happen in a divorce. Did you ask for this? You should get that. Did your lawyers do this?

Sophie said she feels the pair had a prenup, but it’s not yet known what would have been decided in the paperwork.
“Truthfully, I thought maybe they were meant to last on this one, because they’ve been together for so long, and they have teenage kids, and it seemed to me like she had kind of settled down in Tennessee, and they had a life that they had built there.
“So, that was honestly, as a fan, my first reaction, but as a lawyer, I assume there’s a prenup.”
Sophie said that although whatever they owned before their marriage will not be up for grabs, any property they bought together could have to be divided.
The U.S. Sun confirmed the couple has a global property empire worth more than $250 million, according to real estate websites.
They include homes in Los Angeles, Tenneesse, New York and Australia, where they both grew up.
Sophie said, “That could be very messy. With or without a prenup,
when you have multiple homes across multiple jurisdictions,
it’s complicated.
“The other question we don’t know the answer to is who owns the title to those properties.
“Does it say, for example in Australia, that Nicole owns 90 per cent of it and Keith owns 10 per cent of it. We don’t know.
“But whoever is going to do this divorce is going to have to figure out the ownership of each of those properties.”
