Met chief Sir Mark Rowley insists he will not resign despite rumours after BBC doc exposed racist cops in force

MET Police chief Sir Mark Rowley insists he will not resign after his officers were filmed calling for migrants to be shot.

The Commissioner said false rumours of his impending departure over the scandal were being circulated by “the misogynists and racists” who want him out because “it’s them who we’re taking on”.

BBC1’s Panorama this week showed cops at Charing Cross police station in central London making Islamophobic and women-hating comments.

An undercover reporter worked as a civilian detention officer and secretly filmed officers and staff at work and in the pub over seven months.

One PC said of a migrant: “Either put a bullet in his head or deport him.”

Another said: “Islam is a problem. Muslims hate us. Proper hate us.”

Sir Mark said the footage was “vile to watch” and called the officers “ghastly, ghastly individuals”.

He conceded the force had systemic issues and said there was “still a cancer to be removed”.

Nine officers have been suspended.

The Met has axed 1,500 since a damning 2023 report on its culture and standards, ordered after a cop murdered Sarah Everard.
