Midvaal has been recognised as the best-performing municipality in Gauteng at the inaugural 2025 Municipal Performance Awards.
The municipality in Sedibeng was rated on governance, fiscal performance and service delivery at an event hosted by the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), it said in a statement.
Mayor Peter Teixeira welcomed the recognition, attributing the achievement to hardworking staff, rate-paying residents and public representatives.

“This achievement would not have been possible without our dedicated staff members and public representatives who work tirelessly, not only to ensure compliance with legislation, but also to serve and uplift our communities while driving sustainable growth and development.
“I also want to thank our residents who continue to maintain regular payments of their rates and taxes, ensuring that Midvaal remains sustainable,” he said.
Business Tech reported that Midvaal was “South Africa’s best-run municipality outside of the Western Cape.” The municipality has maintained a clean audit for 11 consecutive years, one of only seven nationwide to achieve this record for more than a decade.
Other municipalities were also recognised at the awards. In the Eastern Cape, Kouga was named the best performing municipality in that province.
Mayor Hattingh Bornman welcomed the accolade, saying the municipality aspired to be recognised as one of the best nationwide.
“This award is a celebration of our residents and the trust they place in us,” he said in a statement.
“Through responsible management, accountability and transparency, we are able to provide services that truly improve people’s lives every day. Their support, engagement and resilience are what make achievements like this possible, and this recognition highlights what can be accomplished when residents are placed at the centre of every decision.”
