Jamie Redknapp apologises to Lord Sugar live on Sky Sports after Apprentice star’ sue threat over Spurs comments

JAMIE REDKNAPP has apologised to Lord Alan Sugar after he threatened to sue the pundit over comments relating to his time as Spurs owner.

The former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder was speaking on Sky Sports about chairman Daniel Levy‘s surprising exit last month when he claimed that Lord Sugar left the club in a “total mess.”

The business magnate, who part-owned Spurs between 1991 and 2001, uploaded a furious tweet to X at the time that read: “Jamie Redknapp is a double barrel idiot. He talks a load of rubbish.

“He said when Daniel Levy took over Spurs Alan Sugar left the club in a right mess.

“He and SKY will be hearing from my lawyers Monday.”

Three weeks later, it appears that goings on behind the scenes have sparked the presenter into making an apology on Sky’s Friday Night Football.

Redknapp said: “I said at the time that Lord Sugar had left the club ‘in a mess’.

“I just want to make clear that he stabilised the club and invested heavily during his time as chairman.

“When he took over in 1991 Spurs were close to bankruptcy, and by the time he stepped away the financial position had significantly turned around.

“And with the money he put into the team and the facilities, I apologise to Lord Sugar and his family for all the misunderstanding and any harm caused, and am more than happy to set the record straight.”

Lord Sugar, 78, uploaded his own video of Redknapp’s apology to his social media account on Friday, accompanied by a statement revealing the pundit had also made a donation to a charity as part of his reparations.

The statement read: “On 13th September Jamie Redknapp stated on Sky Sports that I left Tottenham ‘in a mess’ when I sold the club to Daniel Levy.

“Tonight, during Sky’s Bournemouth v Fulham coverage, Redknapp has made a full apology and has retracted this false allegation.

“Also, by way of a further apology, a donation of £10,000 has been made to Great Ormond Street Hospital.”

Tottenham fans will hope the chaos between their former figures is not distracting from the players’ job on the pitch.

They travel to face Leeds on Saturday as they look to reel in their North London rivals Arsenal, with the Gunners currently just two points ahead.
