What started as a normal night at a tavern in Zithobeni ended in a tavern shooting and panic.
The shooting in Zithobeni claimed five lives and left six others injured on 5 October 2025.
TAVERN SHOOTING IN ZITHOBENI CLAIMS FIVE LIVES
Witnesses told the police that two men known in the community allegedly approached a patron and demanded his firearm.
When he refused, they shot him and then opened fire randomly at other patrons. The chaos left five people dead at the scene.
ZITHOBENI TAVERN SHOOTING INJURES SIX MORE
Emergency services rushed six injured patrons to nearby medical facilities.
Additionally, the police have only identified one of the deceased patrons.
POLICE ARREST INJURED FIREARM OWNER
The police arrested the injured patron whose firearm was taken by the two suspects.
According to police, he will face charges under the Firearms Control Act for negligent handling of a firearm.
MANHUNT UNDERWAY FOR TAVERN SHOOTING SUSPECTS
Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili stated that the Gauteng Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Tracking Team is searching for the gunmen.
Investigators have opened five counts of murder and six of attempted murder.
Authorities have urged community members with information to come forward to help track down the suspects before they strike again.
