Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood must stand firm and show that Britain will not be ruled by the mob

Marched away

FOR the past two years, the streets of Britain have played a reluctant host to an almost weekly orgy of hate.

Yobs waving Palestinian flags routinely call for the death of Jews, globalisation of intifada and chant the terrorist battle cry “from the river to the sea”.

Without doubt, the Government has shown near-criminal complacency while these marches fuelled the rise in antisemitism which culminated in last week’s terrorist attack on a Manchester synagogue.

It is a welcome, albeit long overdue, move by the Home Secretary, therefore, to hand police greater powers to slap conditions on repeat demonstrations.

Nobody wants to deny a legitimate right to protest peacefully.

But Shabana Mahmood also has a duty to protect the rights of people to walk around their neighbourhood without fear of intimidation.

It is also a scandal that men and women wearing stab-proof vests must now guard synagogues so others can pray in relative safety.

While the marchers may include ignorant teens and well-meaning but naive older folk, it is clear they are dominated by an extremist mob with a blind hatred of Jews.

Nearly 500 arrests at Saturday’s march is further proof their behaviour has long since crossed the line.

This could be a defining moment for the Home Secretary, with hard-left activists threatening a “major escalation” in response to her action.

She must stand firm and show that Britain will not be ruled by the mob.

Had their Phil

THEY will be choking on their lager at the Queen Vic when they hear of the latest woke crackdown at the BBC.

Bosses want to ban its most famous stars from using affectionate terms such as “mate” or “hun”.

In what can only be seen as an over- reaction to a string of scandals, staff are being told to stick to formal language and take anti-sexual harassment training.

Luckily, the rules don’t extend to the scripts of popular shows like East- Enders or they would have to put a trigger warning on every episode.

The Beeb should pull the plug on this daft idea.

Or as Phil Mitchell might say: “Leave it out will ya, mate.”

Amazing Grace

GRACE O’Malley-Kumar planned to make a career saving lives by becoming a doctor.

But she sacrificed her own, aged just 19, trying to save pal Barnaby Webber from a hulking knife killer.

What a fitting tribute that the medical student’s bravery will be recognised with a posthumous award of the George Medal, one of the highest civilian honours for heroism.

It is bestowed for “acts of great bravery” and “conspicuous gallantry”.

Every word applies to amazing Grace.
