Forget chocolate advent calendars – the new countdown trend parents are doing for their kids & you can use it every year

CHRISTMAS may be a while away, but it looks like there’s a new advent calendar trend parents are doing that children will love.

Long gone are the days when parents would fork out a fortune on overpriced chocolate or beauty advent calendars for their little ones.

Now ASDA has jumped on a new festive trend – and it can be used every year and will bring kids even more joy in the run-up to the festive season.

The popular supermarket has sent shoppers into a frenzy with their new book advent calendar – ideal for those who’ve swapped their phone addiction with reading books.

A Heart for Christmas: An Advent Novel sells for just £10 and is suitable for teenagers of the ages 14 and older.

The concept of the book, which is also available on Amazon for £20, is similar to that of any advent calendar – simply open a chapter a day and follow the swoony festive romance until it’s time to wait for the next date.

The book, written by Sophie Jomain, is a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance that delivers a sealed chapter each day.

”With stunning gilt edges, full colour artwork and ribbon marker, this is the perfect pre-Christmas gift for readers of Lynn Painter, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan,” reads the description online.

The book follows the adventures of eighteen-year-old April who heads to the foothills of Mont Blanc in the Alps to spend her first Christmas at her father’s chalet.

Ever since a heart operation two years ago, April has lived as carefully as possible.

But she knows there’s a world out there that she’s missing out on and she’s determined to experience it all – and this is when she meets Augustin, her best friend’s older brother who turns out to be her skiing instructor.

”He’s no longer annoying – he’s daring and caring and . . . HOT.

”As he encourages her to take risks, April starts to feel her heart really heal – but is it ready for a Christmas miracle?”

A sell-out bestseller in Europe, each of the twenty-four chapters is sealed in a perforated envelope to tear open gently every day.

The romance novel, also available at Waterstones for £20, has won an impressive five-star rating online.

If your child is a little too young for this story, some shoppers have said there is also a book advent calendar for kids, so it’s worth checking out your local store.

The advent novel has already become a huge hit online, with one fan, Libbie May Fitzpatrick, taking to TikTok to rave over the find.

”Get down to ASDA because there’s this new book which is an advent calendar – so you can literally read a chapter a day.

”How cute is that? What a brilliant idea!” said Libbie who posts under the username @libbiemayfitzpatrick.

Posted earlier in September, the video has already racked up close to a whopping 670k views, with hundreds racing to share their thoughts.

One person chuckled: ”I’m too impatient and would just read ahead.”

”I couldn’t just do a chapter a day. I read a book in 1-2 days,” another agreed.

”This is so cute. I’d much prefer that over a chocolate advent calendar,” someone else chimed in.

”I can’t wait to get this i want to get the kids version as well,” a fourth wrote.
