KwaZulu-Natal’s weather will begin with fog patches across much of the province, reducing visibility and making driving conditions dangerous.
According to forecaster Phemelo Zonke, “Fog patches are expected from the Western Cape through to KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo, reducing visibility to less than a kilometre in places.”
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and maintain a safe distance as dense fog settles in during the early morning hours, particularly in the Midlands and along major routes to Durban.
Showers and fog are expected across coastal and inland areas
The SA Weather Service forecasts isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers across coastal and interior areas of KZN.
Zonke said, “It will be mainly fine to partly cloudy across most parts of the country, but KwaZulu-Natal can expect isolated showers and rain along the southern coastline and adjacent interior.”
Durban and Richards Bay will experience humid and hot conditions, with daytime highs ranging from 28°C to 32°C. Inland areas, such as Pietermaritzburg and Newcastle, may experience cooler temperatures.
Warnings of heavy rain and lightning
While the province is not under a severe weather warning, residents should stay alert as thunderstorms may develop in parts of the north and Midlands.
Zonke explained, “Those storms could bring heavy downpours, strong winds, or excessive lightning in places.”
Communities are advised to secure outdoor items, unplug appliances during lightning, and remain indoors during storms.
