A Grade 12 learner has defended spending almost R80 000 on her extravagant and exorbitant Matric Dance event.
On social media, students have been flooding the timeline with price tags for all their expenses; from designer dresses to luxury car rides and, of course, a grand send-off, complete with photography and videography.
MATRIC DANCE LEARNER DEFENDS R80K SPREE
On TikTok, Grade 12 learner @that_girl_cassie_10 documented her Matric Dance cost breakdown.
Her expenses were as follows:
- Makeup – R1 500
- Dress – R35 000
- Hair – R6 000
- Food & decor (for her send-off party) – R13 000
- Shoes, jewelrry and perfume – R4 700
- Photographer – R6 000
- Cars – Free, as they were family-owned
- Partner’s suit and shoes – R1 500
Cassie added that she had to take a flight to Johannesburg to do her hair, and the return flight cost R5000!
In total, the student claimed she had spent a whopping R73 300 on her Matric Dance.
Clapping back at her critics, Cassie posted in the comment section: “It’s crazy how people get so pressed over money that isn’t even theirs. Out here, acting like the bill was sent your way”.
She cheekily added: “My parents would spend this money all over again. And with that, I am done entertaining the ta bracket confusion”.
The learner liked comments that told critics: “Don’t be jealous”.
SHOULD SCHOOLS FORCE LEARNERS TO WEAR UNIFORMS INSTEAD?
While students continue to flaunt their Met Gala-inspired looks, others are praising schools that ban the flashy show of wealth at Matric Dances.
On social media, several schools around the country have been hailed for forcing students to wear uniforms, and not over-the-top outfits – to the he annual celebration.
“It’s a more low-key celebration that prioritizes the achievement itself rather than expensive outfits”, X user @Cparty00220021 said of a Free State school.
