Discovery Bank has revealed how one customer spent a whopping half a million rand in a single transaction on Black Friday.
The bank shared its data with the public as a means of tracking consumer trends and overall economic health.

According to Discovery Bank’s SpendTrend dashboard, data tracked the spending habits of its clients between 00:00 and 23:00 on Black Friday.
The tool revealed how much consumers spent, where they spent their cash, the times of their transactions, and whether they opted for online or in-store purchases.
The data provided a detailed view of the locations of its clients and their corresponding age groups.
Discovery shared that the average online transaction for its clients was R969.
In a surprising detail, it also revealed that one customer spent a whopping R500,000 in a single transaction. It also shared how another spent R99,036 in a single card transaction before 08:00.
Ultimately, the data revealed that most transactions were made online on smart devices, using virtual cards and digital wallets.
