Cool conditions and thunderstorms continue in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga will experience a mix of cool conditions and isolated showers today, following a night marked by widespread thunderstorms across central South Africa.

Forecaster Odirile Modipa said rain would continue over parts of the province.

“Today those weather warnings are still expected to continue at a yellow level one over parts of Mpumalanga,” she explained.

Daytime temperatures will remain cool, with eMalahleni expected to peak at 25°C and Carolina reaching 22°C.

Cool conditions and thunderstorm warnings across the province

The province remains under a yellow level 1 severe thunderstorm warning, alongside neighbouring provinces such as Gauteng, Limpopo and the North West.

Modipa said the atmosphere remained unstable.

“Scattered to widespread showers are expected over the central and eastern parts of the country,” she noted.

The warning includes a risk of lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds, especially during the late afternoon and evening.

Travellers urged to take precautions

Authorities recommend that motorists reduce speed, increase following distances and avoid crossing flooded low-lying areas.

Modipa added that overnight temperatures dropped, with some parts expected to reach lows between 10°C and 13°C, contributing to cold morning conditions.

Communities are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible disruptions.
