Adrian Newey’s staggering working hours revealed with F1 legend’s Aston Martin move ‘no marketing hype’

ADRIAN NEWEY is working around the clock at Aston Martin to help their push to the front of the grid.

The 66-year-old design guru is getting “very little sleep” in his new role at Lawrence Stroll‘s team.

Newey had been with Red Bull for 19 years, before signing a lucrative £20million-a-year contract with Aston Martin, that reportedly rose to £30m including add-ons and bonuses.

Newey won 12 driver’s and 13 constructors’ championships during a glittering 30-year career in F1, having also worked at Williams and McLaren

He started work with Aston Martin as Managing Technical Partner from 1 March this year.

Aston Martin ambassador Pedro de la Rosa told the Dura La Vita podcast:“The important thing is that Adrian Newey didn’t come to Aston Martin to retire.

“It’s because he sees the team’s potential. Newey is working… not 24 hours a day, because he sleeps.

“But he sleeps very little, I can guarantee you that. And it’s amazing,

“Any day you go to the factory at any time, you look and he’s in his office.

“Any time, I can even tell you at two in the morning. I’ve gone there at that time to pick up things and leave.

“The Adrian Newey effect isn’t just a marketing hype. It’s a work effect, an inspiration effect, and it’s stretching and inspiring new generations. Everyone is very excited to work and learn with him.”

Newey’s contract means he earns more than 18 drivers on the F1 grid, including Aston Martin’s star driver and two-time title winner Fernando Alonso.

Only reigning world champion Max Verstappen and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton earn more than Newey.

Aston Martin are currently seventh out of ten in the constructors’ table while Alonso is 14th in the driver’s table and Lance Stroll is 11th.
