South African Afrikaner “refugee” Charl Kleinhaus has praised the work ethic of US farmers and his new life after arriving in the country under the resettlement programme three months ago.
The former granite farmer left his business and five-bedroom home in Limpopo for a new chapter in South Dakota.
Kleinhaus is one of several batches of “racial minorities”, thus far being white people, who have taken up US President Donald Trump’s offer to resettle abroad.
AFRIKANER ‘REFUGEE’ PRAISES NEW LIFE IN THE US
Speaking in an interview with Chris Wyatt, Afrikaner farmer Charl Kleinhaus spoke about his new life in the US as a “refugee”.
Having been initially placed in Buffalo, New York, Kleinhaus and his family relocated to South Dakota after he found work on a farm managed by a South African expat.
Praising his US counterparts, he said in a YouTube video: “The farmers here work. I have not seen any farm workers who work like the American farmers. They are on their machines until 10 or 11 at night, and early in the morning, they start again.
“The work is hard, but it’s a satisfying job”.
Kleinhaus added that US farmers were self-sufficient with “no hands to clean help in the farm” and “no kitchen lady to sweep out the house.”
He continued: “You wash your clothes, they don’t disappear. Things at your house don’t disappear. Your sugar and coffee don’t disappear. And if you complain, then you’re a racist. Here, you blame yourself if something is missing. I prefer it like this”.
As a former “persecuted South African, and now a “refugee”, Charl Kleinhaus claimed that his new life is “relaxed” and “stress-free”.
He said, ” I wasn’t prepared to sleep with doors without locks. There is no security gate.”
‘I LEFT MY MOTHER BEHIND’
Soon after relocating to the US under the resettlement programme, Charl Kleinhaus spoke about his decision to leave South Africa.
He also responded to allegations by the public that Afrikaner “refugees” were “opportunistic”.
The former granite farmer said, “I had to leave a five-bedroom house, which I will now lose, my car, my dogs, and my mother behind. I didnt come here for fun, but my children are safe.”
He added, “If you are white, you are wrong in South Africa. I had nothing to do with Apartheid – nothing, nothing, nothing!

“People must think we are taking advantage of this. We are coming here to make a contribution to the country”.
During the interview, Kleinhaus claimed that as an Afrikaner businessman, he had received “threatening” messages from his community in Limpopo. He also claimed that his equipment had been destroyed and that police could not assist him.
