Airlink has officially launched a new air route between Johannesburg and Nacala, expanding its network in Mozambique and improving air connectivity to the country’s northern regions.
Nacala is Mozambique’s third-largest harbour town and a key gateway for trade, tourism and economic activity. It also serves as the entry point to the Nacala Corridor, which provides Malawi and Zambia with access to markets in Asia, the Middle East and along Africa’s eastern seaboard.
The new route makes Nacala Airlink’s seventh destination in Mozambique.
Johannesburg-Nacala: Flight schedule and aircraft
The Johannesburg–Nacala service will initially operate twice weekly, with return flights on Mondays and Fridays. Flights will be operated using Airlink’s Embraer regional jet aircraft.
The flight schedule is as follows:
- 4Z 236 – Johannesburg to Nacala
Departs 10:30, then arrives 13:10 (Mondays and Fridays) - 4Z 237 – Nacala to Johannesburg
Departs 13:45, then arrives 16:35 (Mondays and Fridays)
Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht said the addition of Nacala strengthens the region’s transport and logistics network by adding an air connectivity component.
He said the airline is launching the route with its own investment and plans to increase capacity and frequency as demand grows.
While services are starting with two return flights per week, Airlink said it sees strong long-term potential for the route.
Long-standing presence in Mozambique
Airlink has operated in Mozambique for more than 30 years and currently runs over 60 return flights a week to destinations including Maputo, Beira, Pemba, Nampula, Tete, Vilanculos and now Nacala.
The airline said its schedules are designed to connect with its domestic and regional services, as well as long-haul flights operated by its international airline partners.
