ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has confirmed that lifestyle audits on public officials are officially coming.
Mbalula made the announcement during a post-National Working Committee media briefing on 2 October 2025 at the Luthuli House.
He said the decision follows growing frustration over officials accused of looting public funds while living large.
CORRUPTION CRACKDOWN TO APPLY TO ALL MEMBERS
Mbalula insisted the lifestyle audits will be handled by a credible institution, not party insiders.
He stressed that no ANC member will be exempt, regardless of position.
“It must be credible and guided by the law, not a witch hunt,” he said.
The ANC working committee will lead the rollout.
According to Mbalula, the audits will apply across all levels, from Cabinet members to regional structures.
ANC NOT LINKED TO MADLANGA INQUIRY, SAYS MBALULA
Mbalula was quick to distance the party from the Madlanga Judicial Commission of Inquiry.
He said the ANC itself is not on trial, but certain individuals trusted with government roles will have to answer.
He admitted that the party still struggles to manage members facing allegations and efforts to crackdown corruption.
He referenced both the Zondo Commission and the Madlanga Commission, saying the party may need to tighten resolutions.
INTEGRITY COMMISSION AND STEP-ASIDE RULE UNDER REVIEW
Mbalula praised the step-aside rule, saying it helped restore discipline.
However, he hinted that the party’s ethics processes could go further.
