The Seagulls star was left down on the Emirates turf in a heap as physios rushed over to treat her.

The French defender was placed into a neck brace and placed onto a stretcher.

In concerning scenes she was stretchered off the pitch by six medics under a hammock with an oxygen mask and tank attached to her.

Brighton fans gave Mpome a standing ovation as she left the field.

The team’s social media account said of the injury: “After a lengthy pause in play, Maelys has been stretchered off after initially receiving medical attention on the pitch.

“Wishing you a speedy recovery, Maelys.”

Dutch footballer Marit Auee replaced the 22-year-old.

Brighton were hit with a second injury concern moments later as Maisie Symonds was left unable to continue after going down off the ball.

A staggering 13 minutes was added on in injury time.

Arsenal ended up winning the game 1-0 courtesy of a 15th minute own goal from Marisa Olislagers, which had come via a cruel deflection from an Olivia Smith cross.

A crowd of 27,336 were in attendance for the game in north London, just under half the total capacity of the Emirates stadium.

The win moved the Gunners into the top five of the WSL after a slow start to the season for Renée Slegers’s side.

A 1-0 win for Chelsea over Tottenham saw them keep their two-point cushion at the top of the league to Manchester United, who beat Everton 4-1 in the club’s first-ever women’s game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
