Beloved vehicle repair shop closes after generation in trade in ‘sad loss to farming’ as vintage tractors hit market

A MUCH-loved agricultural engineering shop has shut its doors after decades in the trade.

Now, its entire treasure trove of tools, parts and workshop kit is heading to an online auction.

It is being described as a sad loss to farming, but it also presents a rare opportunity to acquire high-quality gear and classic tractor spares in one place.

Lineholme Garage was a go-to destination for farmers for generations, renowned as a one-stop shop for agricultural engineering customers nationwide.

With the firm now ceased trading, all stock, machinery, and equipment are being sold off in approximately 400 lots, with the online auction closing on 9 October, 12pm.

All lots can be viewed online, and in-person viewings are available by appointment for those who would like a closer look before bidding.

Specialist asset advisory firm Walker Singleton is handling the disposal.

Director Dan Hey called the closure “a sad loss to the farming and plant industry both locally and further afield,” noting the company’s lifetime of knowledge was “irreplaceable.”

He also framed the auction as “an exciting opportunity for farmers, plant operators and enthusiasts” to purchase equipment, parts, and tools that have been invested in and collected over decades.

What’s up for grabs

Trade-counter stock. New parts, spares and consumables are on the list, including PTO shafts, linkage parts, socket sets and hand tools. Ideal if you are topping up the workshop or replacing battered kit before winter sets in.

Classic tractor treasure. There is a stash of consumables and parts for classic and vintage tractors, with David Brown body panels and engines among the standouts. If you are in the midst of restoration or simply stockpiling hard-to-find items, this could be your moment.

Serious workshop machinery. Expect crankshaft polishers and grinders, as well as a testing facility for cylinder heads, valves, and injectors. Some of the equipment has never even been commissioned, which is a rarity at auction and a significant draw for anyone eyeing a nearly new upgrade.

Trusted names. The catalogue features quality brands that matter in real-world garages, including Snap-On, Bradbury, Colchester and Smart & Brown. As the seller puts it, the investment in quality is obvious when you scan the kit list, and viewing is recommended if you want to appreciate the range.

Why this auction matters

For working farms, this is a practical way to upgrade tooling and purchase consumables at potentially reduced prices.

For enthusiasts, the vintage tractor stock is the real draw, especially the David Brown parts that are not often seen in this volume.

The combination of trade stock and heavy workshop kit suggests there is something here for most budgets and needs.

Key dates and next steps

The auction closes on 9 October, from 12pm, and with around 400 lots in play, late entries and bidding flurries are likely.

If a particular brand or part is on your radar, flag it early and keep an eye on closing times to avoid missing out.

It is a bittersweet moment. A respected business that has served the farming community for a generation is closing its doors, and its knowledge and service will be deeply missed.

Yet the careful investment Lineholme Garage made in quality gear now has the chance to be put back to work on farms and in workshops across the country.

If you are in the market for dependable tools or rare vintage tractor parts, this sale is well worth a look.
