Big warning sent to Kaizer Chiefs strikers

Daniel Matsau, the former Kaizer Chiefs forward, has delivered a blunt message: with Khanyisa Mayo now in Naturena, there’s no hiding place upfront. Goals must flow, or else the bench is available.

The Soweto giants have loaded their frontline with firepower this season, Flavio Da Silva, Etiosa Ighodaro, Luke Baartman and now Mayo, fresh from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad.

Matsau, who knows all about putting the ball in the net for Kaizer Chiefs, believes this depth can finally solve Amakhosi’s goal drought, but only if the rest of the team pulls its weight.

KHANYISA MAYO LIFTS KAIZER CHIEFS ATTACK

“I’m excited about the signing of Khanyisa Mayo; it introduces healthy competition among the strikers,” Matsau told Kick Off. “From now on, if you’re a Chiefs striker and you don’t score, you’re out.

“We missed a striker with his awareness inside the box,” Matsau added. “What I like about him is that he can play as a lone striker, as a number 10, or even as a right winger.

“While I can’t say the puzzle is entirely complete at Kaizer Chiefs, we are moving in the right direction. We have been searching for someone who can finish opportunities effectively. If we find that, I believe we can challenge for the league title,” the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker concluded.
