Former African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Boy Mamabolo’s decision to leave the party has garnered strong reactions.
The controversial politician described his nearly 30-year-long relationship with the ANC as abusive.
Mamabolo’s comments sparked intense backlash on social media, with many saying his political career is over.
MAMABOLO ACCUSES ANC OF CAUSING DEPRESSION
The former ANC member said the decision was difficult and emotional. He joined the ANC at 13, and despite his love for the party, he claims he emotionally left the ANC in 2024. During an interview on Newzroom Afrika, Mamabolo claimed that the party had left many with depression.
“Many comrades died of depression that was orchestrated by ANC leaders,” he said.
Mamabolo also remains steadfast in his decision to form another political party, despite the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) rejecting his previous bid to register his party, Mandela for President.
SOCIAL MEDIA USERS ANNOYED
Mamabolo said he wrote to the IEC appealing for the party, Born to Win, to be registered. The move sparked anger and confusion on social media, with some users questioning his reasoning.
@ngwakomotsieng wrote: “Oh, boy! From Mandela for President to the Born to Win political party, Boy Mamabolo seems determined to become president of ‘political something’ at all costs. Perhaps the IEC should just grant him his wish.”
Meanwhile, @ApstDeza commented: “From ‘Mandela for President’ to ‘Born to Win’, Boy, this is our perfect wedding. Mamabolo is already practising his inauguration dance while registering the family pyramid scheme with the IEC. The Boy has quit the ANC.”
ROCKY POLITICAL HISTORY
Mamabolo has had a rocky political career over the years. Most recently, he was suspended from the ANC after attacking fellow party member Onnica Moloi on social media. Thereafter, Mamabolo was barred by a court from posting or sharing any images or videos of Polokwane Mayor John Mpe and his family online.
However, his ongoing feud with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, continues to haunt him. In August, Malema slammed Mamabolo, calling him an “ice boy who has no opinion.”
DO YOU THINK THE IEC SHOULD REGISTER BOY MAMABOLO’S PARTY?
