Bulls unveil three signings as new era dawns

The Bulls recently confirmed that they had parted ways with coach Jake White after ‘mutual agreement’, but it had been widely reported that this decision was preceded by a player and coach group flagging real concerns with his leadership.

In many ways it’s set to be a fresh start for the Bulls as a new coach comes into the reckoning, and already some big moves have been made to bolster the squad.

The Bulls have made the following announcements

Jan Serfontein, who last played for the Bulls in 2017 before joining Montpellier, is returning to Pretoria following the end of his contract with the French club in June.

The midfielder will join on an initial three-year deal. Before his departure, the 32-year-old earned 48 caps for the Bulls, scoring 15 tries from 45 starts.

The Grey alumni arrived on 1 July and will have his contract with the club run through 2028.

Meanwhile, Springbok lock Marvin Orie has signed with the Bulls on a short-term deal. The 2023 World Cup winner, who is no stranger to the club, arrived from Perpignan at the beginning of July on a season-long deal that begins with the Currie Cup campaign.

Orie had previously earned 10 caps for the club before stints with the Lions [44], Ospreys [7] and the
Stormers [42] before his French shift at Perpignanais where he amassed 29 caps in his two seasons in
the Pyrénées-Orientales.

In addition, EPCR Challenge Cup and French Top 14 winner Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg has penned a deal with the Bulls until June 2027.

Janse van Rensburg left the Bulls after four years at the club, joining Montpellier in France back in 2016.

Since then, he went on to amass a mammoth 174 caps for the French club, and now brings his experience from the Top 14, Champions Cup, Super Rugby, Currie Cup and the EPCR Challenge Cup.
