Can you guess which iconic tourist attraction inspired this suburban leisure centre… and it’s set for a revamp

LEISURE centre swimming pools are a core memory for most people in the the UK, spending their childhood in wave pools and on water flumes.

And there’s a quirky-looking one in Bedfordshire that could be getting a huge revamp.

The Oasis Beach Pool in Bedford has been open for 34 years and it may look familiar to people who haven’t even been there because it’s based on an impressive piece of architecture.

The pool is in the shape of a large pyramid based off the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Bedford Borough Council has revealed it’s hoping to give the Oasis Beach Pool in Bedford an upgrade.

The Oasis Beach Pool originally opened on Cardlington Road in 1991 and now the council wants to find a new partner for the makeover.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture at Bedford Borough Council said: “Oasis Beach Pool has been a much-loved facility and as part of the council’s leisure strategy we have committed to protecting the site for leisure use for future generations of residents and visitors to the Borough.

“With the right investment and stewardship, we believe it can be reimagined as a modern, inclusive destination for local residents and the wider region.”

There’s even the possibility of adding a brand-new attraction on the riverside land next door.

Currently, the leisure centre has a swimming pool with two flumes, bubbling air beds, a mushroom fountain, and what it calls “a bubble burst experience”.

There’s even a party room – although this isn’t quite as exciting as it sounds because it’s where kids will hang out after pool parties and munch on a packed lunch.

The pool also holds swim sessions for over 60s, Aqua Aerobics sessions as well as Swim for Under 5s as well as family fun sessions.

The pool also hosts Aqua Splash sessions which is an inflatable obstacle course on the water.

The price for an adult swim session for non-members is £6.75, children can enter for just £1 at certain times on the weekend.

For more indoor water fun, you should check out one of the UK’s biggest indoor tropical waterpark.

Waterworld in Staffordshire is 30C throughout the year winter and while it’s not the largest indoor in the UK, it is the biggest tropical indoor waterpark.

But with the attraction being open all year, it makes for a great rainy day out.

Along with the warm indoor temperature, there are lots of slides to take advantage of.

Other rides include Nucleus – a water rollercoaster – as well as Stormchaser and Cyclone.

There is also Thunderbolt, which is the UK’s first trap door drop slide and the main wave pool, there are also river rapids to make the most of.

Plus, check out the world’s deepest pool to be built at UK airport – but you can’t swim in it.

And heck out this English holiday park which will get £10million expansion with new outdoor swimming pool and lazy river.
