Cape Town residents have until the end of the year to switch from postal paper bills to electronic municipal accounts.
More specifically, 31 December 2025 is the deadline for Cape Town residents to send in their account number and email address (to the channels provided).
More than 475 000 Capetonians have already made the switch to email, but thousands are still relying on printed accounts delivered via the South African Post Office.
According to the City’s Mayco Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi, the change will make billing more efficient and environmentally friendly.
“All residents need to do is send an email or SMS with both their account number and email address to request an emailed account before 31 December 2025,” said Mbandezi.
“Avoid the year-end rush, switch to eBilling now and help build a cleaner, greener, and more efficient metro.”

Why the City is going digital:
- Faster access: eBilling accounts arrive instantly via email.
- Better tracking: Easier to monitor payments and keep digital records.
- Proof of residence: Electronic bills are valid for official purposes.
- Eco-friendly: Less paper means reduced waste.
- Cost saving: Cuts out printing and postal delivery expenses.
How to switch to eBilling
Residents can sign up in just a few minutes by sending their account number and email address via one of the following channels:
Email: Revenue.Eservices@capetown.gov.za
SMS: 31223
Those without an email address can still receive printed accounts but are advised to contact the City’s Call Centre (0860 103 089) or visit their nearest Customer Interaction Centre for assistance.
The City has also begun sending SMS reminders to customers whose contact details are already on file but who have not yet registered for eBilling.
