While the service offers a clean, safe and world-class travel experience, it remains unaffordable and inaccessible to the majority of commuters who rely on public transport, and continues to operate at a massive loss.

Despite this, Gautrain management and the provincial government are pushing ahead with a multibillion-rand expansion, a move that has sparked concern among residents who fear the destruction of homes and declining property values.

The investigation questions whether the proposed extension will genuinely transform Gauteng’s transport system or simply become an expensive showpiece.
