A Checkers advertisement calling for the Springboks to eat “Kiwis for breakfast” – referring to New Zealand’s All Blacks – did not age well for the South African rugby team.
The rugby rivals played at Eden Park in Auckland, popularly known as the “Fortress”.
The homeside maintained the winning streak with a 24-17 victory against their visitors.
CHECKERS’ ‘KIWIS FOR BREAKFAST’ AD BACKFIRES?
On the eve of the Springboks vs All Blacks game, Checkers posted a video advert on their social media platforms mocking South Africa’s opponents.
The clip saw an AI-generated Springbok walk into a Checkers store, where it decided to snack on fruit.
“Kiwis for breakfast”, the supermarket chain posted, taking a jab at the All Blacks.
It added: “Give it horns, boys”.
Due to the time difference, South Africans watched the game in the morning, with many fans joking about swapping braais for breakfast.
In the comments section, All Blacks supporters had the last laugh at the turn of events.

While the Springboks didn’t get to eat Kiwis for breakfast this week, next week could be a different story.
The boys in green and gold will face off against the All Blacks on Saturday, 13 September at Sky Stadium in Wellington.
The game will kick off at 09:05.
