The City of Cape Town has announced that the 56th annual Festive Lights Switch-On will take place on Sunday, 30 November 2025, at the Grand Parade and along Adderley Street.
This year’s theme, “United in Hope”, celebrates the spirit of unity and optimism as the city kicks off the festive season.
The free public event has become one of Cape Town’s most anticipated traditions, drawing thousands of residents and visitors.
The evening will feature live entertainment, a dynamic lights and pyrotechnics display, and the official switching on of the city’s festive lights.
City officials say this year’s programme will include two new community-driven campaigns: the “Move and Melody” competition, which showcases emerging dance and vocal talent, and the “Wear the Hope – Share the Light” project, where Capetonians can design a festive top for the mayor to wear during the event.
Organisers are urging the public to arrive early to secure good viewing spots and enjoy pre-show festivities.
The concert line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.
The City described the event as “a powerful symbol of Cape Town’s resilience, creativity, and community spirit.”
