According to the South African Weather Service, Gauteng will escape the brunt of the latest cold front sweeping across the country. Forecaster Phemelo Zonke confirmed that the province will experience clear skies tonight and throughout Tuesday, while much of the rest of South Africa contends with widespread rain and even snowfall.
“Gauteng remains unaffected by the cold front with clear and stable conditions expected,” said Zonke.
Calm weather compared to other provinces
The region is expected to maintain relatively warmer overnight temperatures than provinces such as the Free State and Northern Cape, where lows will plummet to single digits.
The calm weather over Gauteng comes despite warnings issued elsewhere, including damaging winds, high fire danger conditions, and hazardous sea navigation alerts. The province is not under any weather advisories now.
“We’re seeing most of the storm activity staying in the western and southern parts of the country,” added Zonke.
“Gauteng residents should take advantage of the pleasant weather while it lasts.”
