Gauteng entered September with blazing temperatures, as the province is set to experience dry, hot, and windy conditions. Johannesburg will reach a maximum of 32°C, while Pretoria will record a sweltering 33°C.
“We are seeing dry and windy weather with rising temperatures as we move into spring. Residents should remain cautious, especially about fire risks,” said Mpho Rasimphi, a forecaster.
The hot and dry air not only impacts comfort but also increases fire hazards. Authorities have urged residents to immediately report any signs of smoke or fire to local officials.
Warm Stretch outside Gauteng
The rising heat will be extended beyond Gauteng into Limpopo and the Free State. Limpopo towns like Phalaborwa peaked at 34°C, while Polokwane recorded 30°C.
Rasimphi noted that the warm stretch will likely dominate much of the interior for the day.
“Conditions across the interior, stretching from the Northern Cape into Limpopo, remain very hot. This calls for both vigilance and water-conscious living,” Rasimphi explained.
The weather service advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.
Mild Relief in Mpumalanga
While Gauteng and Limpopo will swelter, Mpumalanga will experience milder conditions. Middleburg reported a maximum of 29°C, while Mbombela settled at 28°C.
Still, authorities reminded residents nationwide to be aware of sudden weather shifts. With spring underway, patterns of intense heat and windy spells are expected to continue.
Do you think Gauteng is prepared enough to handle the rising heat and the fire risks of spring?
