Clouds and coastal showers expected in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal residents will see a mix of partly cloudy skies and warm conditions today, with light rain expected along the coast by evening. Durban and Pietermaritzburg began the morning at 16°C and 17°C, respectively, with temperatures expected to rise steadily throughout the day.

Joel Guy, a forecaster, said: “It is going to be partly cloudy for much of Wednesday over the southern and eastern areas, with light rain forecast along coastal regions.”

Strong Winds Raise Caution in KwaZulu-Natal

Strong winds are set to accompany the changes, particularly along the coast. Also, gusts up to 40 km/h are expected to sweep KwaZulu-Natal’s shoreline.

Guy noted: “Some winds are focused along the Eastern Cape coastal areas and into KwaZulu-Natal, with similar wind speeds forecast for central regions.”

Additionally, authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, especially near open water, as choppy seas may accompany the gusty weather.

Rising Inland Temperatures

While coastal areas, including Durban and Port Shepstone, will remain comfortable at around 25°C, inland regions are set to experience much higher temperatures. Furthermore, the Northern parts of Clouds and coastal showers expected in KwaZulu-Natal, including Umnambithi, are forecast to reach between 32°C and 34°C, with humidity adding to the discomfort.

Communities are advised to prepare for evening showers along the coast and intense heat inland.

Do you think KwaZulu-Natal’s coastal and inland residents are ready to balance cooler rain with soaring inland heat this spring?
