Confirmed! Mohau Nkota and Relebohile Mofokeng to reunite

Mohau Nkota and Relebohile Mofokeng will once again play alongside each other when Bafana Bafana resume their FIFA World CUp qualifiers.

The two 20-year-olds played together during their time at Orlando Pirates. Having formed a formidable combination playing on either side of the Pirates’ DDC challenge team, both players were called to the senior team by then-coach Jose Riveiro.

Mofokeng got promoted at the age of 17, while Nkota had to wait a year later. Last season, the two players scored close to 20 goals combined and were instrumental in Orlando Pirates reaching the CAF Champions League semi-final for only their fourth time.

Can Nkota and Mofokeng inspire Bafana?

Nkota left Pirates for Saudi Arabia in July after just one season with the Buccaneers senior team. He hasn’t made a debut for his new club Ettifaq Club with the new season only kicking off end of August.

On Thursday, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos named Mofokeng and Nkota in his preliminary squad, which will play Lesotho and Nigeria next month. Both wingers have played a handful of matches under Broos and will no doubt make the final 23-man squad to be announced in the coming weeks.

Mofokeng has yet to find form since the departure of Nkota and perhaps playing alongside the left-winger in the national team could revive him.

Orlando Pirates have had a mixed start to the season, winning just two of their opening five matches across all competitions. This weekend, the Buccaneers travel to Pretoria to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final.

Will Mofokeng find his form?
