KwaZulu-Natal residents should prepare for changing weather conditions as a cold front sweeps across the province, bringing isolated showers, strong winds, and damaging coastal waves.
Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi also confirmed that the system is moving from the north and will continue to impact KZN into Wednesday.
“We are expecting some isolated showers over the interior, while coastal areas will experience stronger winds as the cold front moves through,” Rasimphi said.
Level 2 warning for damaging waves
The South African Weather Service has issued a level 2 warning for damaging waves along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline. The warning highlights risks of rough seas and hazardous conditions for small boats.
Rasimphi urged caution along the coast, “Damaging waves are expected to build along parts of KwaZulu-Natal as the cold front moves eastward into the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.”
He also added that residents should avoid unnecessary travel near the shoreline.
Winds could reach 70km/h
Furthermore, the forecaster also warned of powerful gusts.
“Behind the cold front, winds may reach speeds of up to 65 kilometres per hour, with gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour in exposed areas,” Rasimphi explained.
Inland areas can expect cooler daytime conditions. However, KwaZulu-Natal coastal regions will remain milder, with highs between 22°C and 25°C.
Residents in KwaZulu-Natal are encouraged to secure outdoor items, take precautions on the roads, and monitor the Weather Service’s updates as the system develops.
