DEAD BODY FOUND IN ABANDONED BUILDING

“Two children were playing near a former nightclub when they noticed what appeared to be a body floating in the flooded basement,” read the SAPS statement.

The children then alerted community members, who contacted the police.

Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli confirmed to The South African that due to the basement being flooded, it became difficult for them to retrieve the body.

The police then contacted the Bloemfontein Diving and Rescue Unit, which was dispatched to the scene to assist in recovering the body.

The body was discovered to be in a state of decomposition, consisting only of a torso and legs.

Police are making efforts to drain the water from the building to locate the missing upper body part.

An inquest has been opened and investigations are currently taking place.
