MANCHESTER CITY midfielder Kalvin Phillips made a 380-mile round trip from London to play in the Carabao Cup – just hours after the birth of his second child.

The 29-year-old made his first competitive City appearance in 645 days on Wednesday.

Phillips was introduced for a seven-minute cameo against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup – his first outing of the campaign.

City went on to win 2-0 thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Savinho in Yorkshire.

And after the match, manager Pep Guardiola revealed that Phillips had made a last-minute dash to Huddersfield following the birth of his child on Tuesday.

The City boss explained: “It’s a good moment he came back for a few minutes.

“He became a father to Ari Phillips and he came this morning from London.

“He is now going back to London to his wife and the kids.”

Before the Cup meeting with Huddersfield, Guardiola hinted that Phillips could get some more game time for Man City this season.

He said: “He’s coming back, training with us and we will see what happens.

“He’s coming from surgery so now has to make training sessions and maybe some minutes in some games.”

Phillips took to Instagram to share a message following his first City appearance in almost two years.

He wrote: “It’s been a long 3 and a half months out and there’s still work to be done personally.

“Nevertheless, I’m so happy to be back out on the pitch again in a City shirt.

“Thank you to the fans for your support, it doesn’t go unnoticed.

“Onto the next round @ManCity.”

The Cityzens will face Swansea City in the next round of the Carabao Cup next month.
