Did DHL Stadium staff let Springbok fans in for FREE?

DHL Stadium management has dismissed social media reports that some Springbok fans gained “free entry” to watch the team play the Wallabies over the weekend.

This follows claims of a glitch in the ticket scanning system ahead of kick-off.

The Cape Town sporting venue has come under fire for pricey tickets for Bok games, some costing up to R4 000 each.

FREE ENTRY TO WATCH THE SPRINGBOKS?

In several TikTok video, ticketholders to the Springbok vs Wallabies game at DHL Stadium complained about the public being granted “free entry” due to a glitch in the system.

Good Hope FM sports presenter Morgan Newman was one of them, posting a clip of scores of fans being let in through an open gate.

He captioned the clip: “People paid between 2k-5k for tickets. Only for me to arrive at the gates, and it’s a free-for-all all.”

He added: “My ticket WAS AT NO POINT CHECKED! The only thing security did was search me at a gate 50 metres back.”

In the comments section, fellow ticketholders verified his claims about the DHL Stadium drama.

Some even admitted to “sneaking in”.

DHL STADIUM MANAGEMENT RESPONDS

According to DHL Stadium’s Marketing Department, a temporary technology glitch caused turnstiles to struggle to read tickets to the Springbok vs Wallabies game.

The process created a backlog at the gates, and the stadium’s Venue Operating Centre instructed officials to open the gates to alleviate the issue.

However, management disputed that the process was a “free-for-all” situation.

In a statement, officials claim that security had already physically checked those who had been let through the open gates.

It read: “Everyone who would have entered through the open gate did so from this secured, fenced area. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that someone would have entered the stadium without a ticket.”
