The Auckland Pasifika Students Choir has shared their joy in not only performing the national anthem, Nkosi Sikele iAfrika, for the Springboks, but also in the praise it has received from South Africans themselves.
On Saturday, 6 September, the group performed both anthems for the Boks vs All Blacks game in Eden Park.
The youth choir shared how the moment was a “dream come true” for the group.
NEW ZEALAND CHOIR ON SA NATIONAL ANTHEM: ‘IT WAS AN HONOUR’
On social media, both South Africans and New Zealanders commented on the passionate performance of the national anthems by the Psifika Students Choir.
The youth group sang a rendition of Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika, nailing both the harmony and pronunciation of the song.
The choir – which falls under SaintzUp Performing Arts and Entertainment – were humbled by the positive comments.
Reposting a clip of the national anthem, the music director Nainz Tupa’i stated that “it has always been an honour to arrange the anthems we’ve performed”.
“But being given the chance to arrange the South African national anthem, his favourite, is truly a dream come true”, the post added.
EMPOWERING DISADVANTAGED YOUTH
The SaintzUp Performing Arts and Entertainment group was empowering young people in the performing arts sector.
According to the founders, the programme was particularly developed for the youth of the Plynesian ethnic group, which is considered a disadvantaged community.
