A 20-year-old wanted murder suspect was shot and killed in a police shootout in Cato Manor, Durban, on Thursday.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said law enforcement had been tracking him down and found him at the residence.
He fired the first shot at the police when they entered the premises, sparking a shootout, Netshiunda said in a statement on Friday.
WANTED FOR MURDER AND OTHER CRIMES
Netshiunda said the man was wanted in connection with a murder committed on Sunday.
He was also linked to several house and business robberies in the same area.
The suspect was previously arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in 2024 and attempted murder in 2023.
He was also convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Netshiunda said police recovered firearms and four rounds of ammunition from the scene.
