EFF supporters get rowdy on FlySafair flight to Julius Malema court hearing – WATCH

A video showing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters chanting and singing aboard a FlySafair flight to East London has sparked widespread debate on social media and prompted an investigation by the airline.

In the footage, which has been circulating online, passengers are seen seated while a group of EFF supporters dressed in the party’s signature red attire and berets move down the aisle.

The group can be seen clapping, dancing and singing, drawing mixed reactions from fellow passengers and social media users.

Criticised the behaviour

The supporters were reportedly travelling to East London to attend Friday’s court appearance of EFF leader Julius Malema, who is facing sentencing proceedings related to his 2018 conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a public space, and reckless endangerment.

While some online users praised the group for showing solidarity with their leader, others criticised the behaviour as disruptive, rowdy and disrespectful to other passengers on the flight.

Several commentators called on FlySafair to take action, raising concerns about in-flight conduct and passenger safety.

Under investigation

FlySafair has since confirmed that it is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation to determine whether any of its safety or conduct protocols were breached.

“We take passenger safety very seriously. The incident you’re referring to is currently under investigation to establish exactly what happened on board,” the airline said in a statement.

“FlySafair has strict policies in place to ensure all passengers travel safely and respectfully, and if it’s found that any of these were breached, appropriate action will be taken. We appreciate your patience while this review is completed.”

The airline did not indicate when the investigation is expected to be concluded.
