Residents in the Rand Water Bronberg Mamelodi Reservoir supply zone will face an eight-hour water outage on Tuesday, 2 December. The City of Tshwane confirmed that maintenance teams will repair and service the Bronberg Mamelodi Direct R5 and R6 pressure-reducing valves. Officials said the work is necessary to stabilise supply and prevent future bursts.
According to the notice, the shutdown will run from 8:00 to 16:00, affecting Mahube Valley Extensions 21, 24, 29 and 30; Mamelodi Extensions 8, 11, 12, 18 and 22; and Pienaarspoort Extension 2.
Tie-in connection may trigger a more extended water outage
While Mamelodi faces a confirmed outage, Irene residents have been advised to prepare for a potential ten-hour disruption. The city of Tshwane will conduct a tie-in connection at the corner of Nellmapius and Olivienhoutbosch Roads as part of ongoing upgrades to the local network.
Although technicians aim to avoid interrupting the water supply, the municipality warned that cuts may still occur from 8:00 to 18:00. The affected areas include Cornwall Hill and Irene Extensions 9, 10, 36, 44, 55, 60, 86, 176, 179, 181 and 184.
The city said it would make every effort to minimise the impact, stating that “an interruption of water supply will be avoided at all costs, however, it may occur for ten hours.”
The city issues an apology and urges residents to plan ahead
The municipality acknowledged the inconvenience the work may cause but insisted that both projects are essential to ensure long-term network reliability.
In a final note to residents, the city said, “The City of Tshwane sincerely apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered.”
Residents have been urged to store sufficient water ahead of the scheduled work, keep taps closed during the outage to prevent flooding when supply is restored, and report any abnormal leaks or bursts immediately.
