The Energy Secretary visited countries including the US, Brazil and Azerbaijan between July 2024 and March this year.

In just 33 days, he flew to Delhi and back for “UK-India Energy Dialogue”, China “to engage . . . on climate and the energy transition”, and Berlin.

His trips cost £75,168, figures from his Department for Energy Security and Net Zero revealed.

Experts say 1,200 trees would have to be planted to make up for the estimated 12.2 tons of CO2 his globe-trotting has generated.

While in Opposition, the former Labour leader opposed expansion of Heathrow Airport and said voters should be encouraged to use trains and buses instead of planes.

A spokesman for his department told The Sun on Sunday: “We make no apologies for representing the British people.

“The emissions we can save from working with other countries will dwarf air miles from attending summits.”
