Explore the Cape Town Big 6 on your next trip

If you’re unsure where to visit on your next trip to Cape Town and need some inspiration, start with the essentials.

The Cape Town Big 6 is a curated collection of the best six attractions to visit and explore in the Mother City and its surroundings.

These six destinations were selected because they offer the essential spots, so to speak, to get a taste of what makes Cape Town simply an unforgettable place. Let’s take a look.

Meet the Cape Town Big 6

As a collaborative effort by the respective destinations, the Cape Town Big 6 are Cape Point, Groot Constantia, Kirstenbosch, Robben Island, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, and the V&A Waterfront.

Whether you have a few days or are staying for a longer period of time, you can carefully fit the Big 6 into your itinerary. Each destination offers a plethora of activities and some of the best sights to see.

But they are more than just six destinations; they hold history and culture that is alive and ever-changing. They are landmarks of the Cape’s heritage, and where you will also experience magnificent natural biodiversity and scenic splendour that will make you feel as if you were transported to another world.

You can start at any of these destinations, depending on the length of your trip and your preferences. If you’d like to see the city a bit more, explore the V&A Waterfront and take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. You can also find the ferries that will take you to Robben Island at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront.

Make a day of it and explore Cape Point. This is the most southwestern tip of Africa. Here you will find a lighthouse over a century old and various other options for fun things to do, from hikes to fishing, and more. Maybe make a night of it too and sleep over!

Spend a morning taking a walk at Kirstenbosch and end the day visiting Groot Constantia, which is one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa, established in 1685. Here you can truly wine and dine in the most beautiful surroundings, explore the cellars, walk around the estate, or visit its museum.
