The Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre, in West Drayton, London, started its refurbishment in 2022 and has entered its final stages.

The centre is owned by Hillingdon Council which directly manages the £37 million project.

The new attraction will feature three different swimming pools, a rooftop football pitch and rock climbing.

The Platinum Jubilee will also boast a spin studio, a split level gym, a dance studio, a café and a function room.

On the ground floor, a 25-metre swimming pool will be located next to a training pool for kids and a splash-zone with a water slide.

A family centre, run by the social care team of Hillingdon Council, will be located on the second level.

With additional amenities, the family hub will be “an extension” of the services that the Hillingdon Civic Centre now offers.

Local residents will be able to access a medical maternity room, a consultation and group meeting room, and a kitchen for teaching family cooking classes.

The ‘youth space’ will be located in the same vicinity as the family hub.

This will provide young people a place to make their own music and a dedicated area for playing video games.

There will be rock climbing sessions available on the ground level, with six climbing walls, each with a distinctive design.

As soon as visitors pass through the turnstiles, they will enter the “changing village” with lockers, restrooms, showers, a steam room, and a sauna.

Michael Naughton, Head of Capital Programme Works Service, told the LDRS: “We really want people to have an option for every type of activity nearby, without having to travel too far.”

With the goal of eventually making the leisure centre net zero, the centre will be partially powered by solar panels on the roof and will also use air-to-air heat pumps.

Initially, the council had hired the Buckingham Group to handle construction, but the company went into administration in 2023, leaving the project in limbo.

In order to keep the plans from collapsing, the council had to take over project management and hire subcontractors to complete the work.

The leisure centre is anticipated to open its doors in the new year, although the exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
