Gauteng will face a foggy morning and chilly temperatures

Gauteng residents should brace for a cold start to Friday. Early morning fog patches are expected to blanket the interior regions, and visibility could drop to less than a kilometre in some places, raising concerns for road safety.

Fog in the morning: Reduced visibility and caution on roads

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, especially during the early morning hours. Fog patches may impair visibility significantly.

“Those fog patches are expected to reduce visibility to less than a kilometre in places,” said Phemelo Zonke, a SABC meteorologist.

“Please do take caution if you are driving early tomorrow morning and do keep a safe following distance.”

Conditions are expected to remain cool as the day progresses. Pretoria is forecast to reach a high of 23°C, while Johannesburg will peak at a chilly 22°C.

Winds and Isolated Showers Elsewhere

While Gauteng may avoid significant rainfall, other provinces are bracing for scattered showers and winds. A cold front east of the country is drawing in moisture, bringing isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Free State and Mpumalanga.

In addition, damaging winds are forecast over the northeastern and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, stretching into the Free State and parts of the North West province.

Weather Service Issues Cautions

Though Gauteng is not the hardest hit, the South African Weather Service has advised caution for areas facing more severe conditions. Coastal provinces will see more dramatic impacts, with damaging waves and wet weather extending from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape.
