Gaza ceasefire spells GREAT news for petrol price in November 2025

South African motorists may see a welcome drop in fuel prices in early November, with petrol expected to fall by up to 57 cents per litre and diesel 21 cents, according to the latest data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF).

The potential decrease comes amid stabilising global oil prices and a strengthening rand, both of which are helping to ease pressure on local fuel costs.

The price of Brent Crude oil has remained steady at around $67 per barrel in recent months, and dropped further to $62 following Friday’s ceasefire announcement in Gaza, easing concerns about supply disruptions in the Middle East.

At the same time, the rand’s recent gains against the US dollar have improved South Africa’s import position, contributing to an under-recovery in fuel prices – a key signal for a price cut.

Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF):

FUEL PRICE CHANGE
Petrol 93 decrease of 57 cents
Petrol 95 decrease of 55 cents
Diesel 0.05% decrease of 21 cents
Diesel 0.005% decrease of 21 cents
Illuminating Paraffin decrease of 9 cents

If the market conditions were to remain consistent for the remainder of the month – an unlikely scenario with the rand/dollar exchange rate fluctuating and the oil price ever changing – a decrease of 57 cents is expected for petrol 93 octane motorists and a decrease of 55 cents for 95 users.

Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something around a 21 cents per litre decrease.

Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to drop by 9 cents in price.

FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:

1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices

2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products
