South Africa’s road running darling Gerda Steyn won her fourth Comrades Marathon title on Sunday.
The win was Steyn’s third consecutive title – and fourth overall – having triumphed in 2019, 2023 and 2024,
Steyn, now 35, crossed the finish line in an unofficial time of 5:51:19.
Russia’s Alexandra Morozova took second in 5:55:56, while Kenya’s Shelmith Muriuki finished third in 6:07:56, becoming the first ever black female to stand on a Comrades Marathon podium.
Men’s winner
Meanwhile, earlier, South Africa’s Tete Dijana has claimed his third ‘down run’ victory in the Comrades Marathon.
Dijana, 37, won the race in 2022 and 2023.
Dijana stopped the clock in an unofficial time of 5:25:28, with Dutchman Piet Wiersma second in 5:25:33.
Russian Nikolai Volkov completed the podium in third place in 5:29:42.
The iconic race got underway at 05:30 on Sunday at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finished at People’s Park outside Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
This year’s race, the 98th of all time, covered 89.98km.
