Despite Kaizer Chiefs‘ 1-0 win over PEC Zwolle on Tuesday evening, many of the club’s fans are not happy with new striker Flavio Silva.
The Portuguese striker has fired blanks in four of the pre-season matches he played in. Having come from Indonesia, not much was expected from the 29-year-old given the level of football in the country.
Against PEC Zwolle, the Silva struggled while his teammate excelled, especially when in possession. It was the first time this pre-season that Chiefs looked dangerous with the ball and were eventually rewarded when Naledi Hlongwane scored the only goal of the match in the second half.

“Kaizer Chiefs should give Naledi Hlongwane a full game. Silva out for now till he settles in. The kid needs game time and he can be our top score. He is hungry,” @ndlanzibm1 tweeted.
“Chiefs should exercise termination of contracts with mutual agreements to Ethan Chislett & Flavio Da Silva I’ve seen enough, DDC graduates are miles ahead of them,” @Arthursphere tweeted
@whispersfc wrote: “I don’t see Silva finishing the season with Kaizer Chiefs we even have better strikers in the LFA than him.”
Kaizer Chiefs legend Tsepo Masilela said Silva needs to adapt quickly, or else Kaizer Chiefs fans might start becoming impatient with the striker.
“If you don’t start well in pre-season, it already gives a negative impact on the people. Once you play one bad game in the league, they say, ‘but what did you expect, we’ve seen enough during pre-season, this guy is not going to help us’. You need to get result for the confidence of the team,” he said.
