Here are just some of the ways a sprinkle of cinnamon can transform a dish.
SUPER SOUP: It adds a subtle sweetness and warmth to savoury dishes and works brilliantly with butternut squash or sweet potato.
Roast chunks in oil with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg to serve as a side dish.
For a warming autumn soup, you could blitz the roasted veg in a blender with cooked onion, garlic and stock. Add cream for extra richness. For a meaty meal, add cinnamon with a dash of dried ginger and cumin to create a tagine-style stew.
SUGAR AND SPICE: You’ve seen cinnamon rolls popping up in UK cafes and coffee shops. We can’t get enough of the sticky sugar-and-spice combo.
Create your own cinnamon sugar with 100g sugar and a teaspoon of the spice.
Mix together thoroughly and then you can store it in a jar for a few months.
You can sprinkle the sweet treat on pancakes and buttered toast, use it as a topping for cakes and muffins, or even sprinkle over a spoonful on cereal or porridge.
LATTE LOVE: To make a pair of tasty cinnamon lattes at home, follow this recipe from realfood.tesco.com.
Put three teaspoons of espresso powder, two teaspoons of sugar and half teaspoon of cinnamon in a heatproof jug.
Pour over 150ml hot water, then split the mixture between two latte glasses or mugs. Pour over 500ml of warmed milk. Whip 60ml cream to soft peaks.
Put a teaspoon of sugar and a large pinch of cinnamon in a small bowl and then mix with enough hot water to make a loose paste.
Swirl most of it through the cream, then dollop it over the coffee and allow it to melt into the hot drink.
Stir the remaining cinnamon paste through the top of the coffee to serve.
