WITH my purse feeling tighter than ever before and a pair of jeans from Maebe costing just shy of £100, there’s no way they would ever enter my wardrobe.
But luckily for those strapped for cash, many brands have released dupe versions of Molly-Mae Hague’s £90 pair of pricey denims.

With the Maebe denim jeans out of my budget, I was convinced to buy a strikingly similar pair from TikTok Shop[/caption]

But this dupe from Katch Me looked strikingly similar when viewed online[/caption]
There’s options available on Ego, Missguided, Pink Boutique and PrettyLittleThing, all of which are strikingly similar to the influencer’s design.
But not only this, you don’t have to scroll on TikTok for too long until you are hit with yet another new dupe – this time, a pair that looks exactly the same, but for less than half the price.
Eager to steal the star’s style without having to make myself broke, I was sucked into making yet another TikTok Shop purchase and ordered the Katch Me Mid-Rise Adjustable Button Wide Leg Jeans.
They were constantly popping up on my FYP and with influencers constantly raving about their “stretchy” and “flattering” material, I was desperate to give them a try.
The Seam Detail Boyfriend Jeans from Maebe are said to be a “wardrobe essential” made for “every day wear” using “high-quality cotton mixed with polyester for a softer and drapier fit.”
Not only this, but unlike most high-street denims, the waist on Molly-Mae’s “favourite” pair of jeans, which she has been pictured in on numerous occasions, convincing me that they’d look great, can be tailored thanks to the clever adjustable button feature.
So it won’t come as a surprise that I jumped for joy when I saw the strikingly similar buy on TikTok Shop, which were once priced at £59.98 but had been reduced down to just £38.99.
There’s four colours to choose from and while just under £40 for jeans isn’t exactly dirt cheap, the TikTok alternative are a whopping £51.01 less than Molly-Mae’s “must-have” pair, which have been described as “the best jeans ever.”
I’m sure Molly-Mae was fuming when she saw the latest pair of dupe jeans, which when you look at both listings, it’s hard to see much difference.
But unfortunately, I was just as angry when my online order arrived. Here’s my very honest verdict of the viral denims…
I had extremely high hopes for these jeans, but much to my surprise, the disappointment was real. I feel totally conned.
Yes, the TikTok jeans have an almost identical pinstripe detailing to Molly-Mae’s.
As well as this, the vintage-inspired denims also have an impressive copy of the mum-of-one’s extendable button, making them great for bloated days – or so I thought.
To put it bluntly, they’re gross

But just seconds after the postman dropped them off and I took them out of the bag, my mum left me horrified when she gasped, ‘what are those?!’ before I even had a chance to put them on.
And things continued to go further and further downhill when I swapped my favourite ASOS denims for this viral pair.
The jeans are said to “flatter your figure,” but if you ask me, the length is totally off.
Yes, they look good on my waist and bum, but I daren’t put trainers on and wear them out of the house, as I’m sure they’d turn heads but for all the wrong reasons.
The jeans are said to be “leg-lengthening,” but if anything, they make my long 5 ft 7 pins look like stumps – so if you’re a tall girl like me, I’d definitely avoid them.
If that wasn’t bad enough, they don’t look a thing like the listing – rather than long and stretchy, they’re short and stiff.
Why is it so hard to find the perfect pair of jeans…

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby Mchale has revealed why it’s so hard to find the perfect pair of jeans…
If there is one item of clothing that is never easy to buy it’s jeans.
If you think you’ve got your size nailed after finding the perfect fit, nine times out of ten when you next come to buying a pair you will most likely still have to try before you buy.
But what is it about jeans that makes them such a difficult fit?
Well there isn’t a universal size guide that every retailer sticks to, so this means that one brands size 12 could be an inch or so different to another brands and that can make all the difference.
Plus, it’s all about the denim, some jeans are made with stiffer denim that don’t give them as much give.
Whereas some stretchier denims obviously have more stretch which means they can be more forgiving.
However, don’t forget that all denim does eventually stretch, so when you’re trying jeans on and they feel ever so slightly tight, remember that they will actually give after wearing them.
So sadly this does mean the best piece of advice is to just try them on, however if you are short of time or can’t be bothered then the Japanese jean test I have found works quite effectively.
Wrap the waistband of the jeans around your neck, if they can wrap all the way round and don’t leave a gap then they should fit your waist.
To put it bluntly, they’re gross.
Yes, the extendable button is smart, but when the jeans are on, it looks pretty stupid and clunky.
As well as this, the colour is also much darker than those from Maebe.
Countless ‘paid partnership’ advertisements raving about these jeans are continuing to pop up on my social media and I don’t know how much these content creators are earning to say they’re “stunning” and “so comfy,” but I’m struggling to see the appeal.
While these denims aren’t a total eyesore (my mother may beg to disagree), they’re nowhere near as flattering or stretchy as I had hoped.
I’m totally baffled beyond belief that they have an average rating of 4.7 out of five, as I’ll be sending mine back ASAP.
For almost £40, they’re not only a flop, but a total rip off.
Would I recommend them? It’s not a Maebe-not, but a definitely not.
My rating: 1/5
