I moved from the UK to Spain because I hated my job – life is so much cheaper than I expected, even my Aldi shop is less

A WOMAN who moved to Spain in her 20s has revealed why it’s the “best decision” she’s ever made.

Jade explained how she hated her job in the UK and was fed up of her mood constantly being affected by the typically unpredictable British weather.

So, packing up her belongings, she took the plunge and jetted off to Murcia in Spain, where she planned on starting her travels.

Jade explained how it quickly felt like home – and after 9 months of being there, she hasn’t looked back since.

However, in a recent video shared to TikTok (@jadeinspain), which has since gone viral, racking up over 77k views, Jade has shared a few things that no-one warned her about when she moved to Spain.

In the clip, the adventurer begins by explaining how she made the decision to leave the UK two years ago.

“I didn’t love my job,” she writes. “I hated my lifestyle. And the weather got to me every single year.”

She goes on to say how she wanted “more from life” then just going out to the pub every weekend.

So, after heading to Spain, she arrived in Murcia and after just five weeks of being there, admits she “fell in love” with the place.

Despite carrying on with her plans and travelling around Southeast Asia, she says she couldn’t stop thinking about the time she enjoyed in Murcia.

So, six months later, she headed back and points out how this time, it “felt like home.”

Jade then highlights one of the many reasons she moved there – noting how Murcia is sunny almost every day, so her mood is never affected by the weather anymore like it was in the UK.

“Life is cheaper than expected – breakfast for €5 and a 3-course menu for €12-15,” she continues.

Jade, who is learning Spanish, goes on to add that the pace of life is much slower in Murcia and that people are actually keen to talk, rather than just rushing past you.

She concludes: “Moving to Spain in my 20s was the best decision that we could have made.”

In a second video, Jade claims how even her Aldi shop is cheaper in Spain.

She begins by explaining how she did as similar a shop as she could in Aldi in both the UK and in Spain to try and get as fair a comparison of the prices as she possibly could.

Jade admits that while she tried to get the exact same ‘household’ products, there were a few slight differences – although in those instances, she tried to keep the amounts the same.

Amongst the items were beers, tomatoes, pasta and porridge oats.

How easy is it to move abroad?

Brexit means British citizens now have to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries residency restrictions are easier than others, here’s what you need to do at home before moving:

  • Notify HMRC about your upcoming move.
  • Let your local authority know and provide a forwarding address.
  • Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before leaving.
  • If you have paid enough UK national insurance contributions, you can qualify for a state pension abroad – contact the International Pension Centre.
  • You can sign up to the Royal Mail’s redirection service.
  • If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre.
  • If you have children, give due notice to childcares and schools.

While her UK shop came to £10.21, her Spanish total came to €7.93, which converts to just £6.87 – making her Spanish shop cheaper.

Jade’s post was flooded with comments from social media users who were full of praise for her brave decision.

“Well done for going for it!:Just a few years more for me & I’m doing exactly that!” wrote one.

A second complimented: “Good on you !!! Enjoy life !!! Wish we did that 30 yrs ago.”

A third added: “Murcia is just the best place/”

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “Absolutely adore Murcia, saving to buy over there near my mam she loves it, Puerto de mazzaron is so nice.”
