‘In die dorpie’: Mzansi’s ‘Justin Bieber’ goes viral

A South African Justin Bieber lookalike who speaks isiXhosa and Afrikaans has gone viral on TikTok. Ironically, the doppleganger – whose real name is James Sweetnam – also happens to be a singer.

In recent days, musician James Sweetnam has been trending on TikTok for his uncanny resemblance to US star Justin Bieber.

From his physical features to his swag, the Greytown-born artist has Mzansi doing a double-take in every video posted on social media.

After initially claiming: “I dont see it”, James has now fully embraced his likeness to the American hearthrob.

James has performed a few covers of Justin Bieber’s songs, spoofing the lyrics of Yukon’s “In the city” to “In die dorpie”

WHO IS JAMES SWEETNAM?

Unlike Justin Bieber, who found fame as a child star, James Sweetnam discovered his love of music while studying at the University of Cape Town.

Honing his skills during the COVID-19 lockdown, writing, recording, and performing his own music.

According to James, who performs at gigs around the country, his music is influenced by different genres, including rock, funk, and R&B.
